Socially Responsible Practices

Sustainable Forestry

Twenty-six U.S. production facilities have obtained certifications with the Forest Stewardship Council® and/or Sustainable Forestry Initiative®. Through FSC® and SFI® chain of custody systems, we help customers demonstrate their commitment to responsible forest management and label their products with the FSC® or SFI® trademark.

Avoiding Endangered Hot Spots

Taylor carefully manages our fiber sourcing to avoid ancient and endangered forest regions, including North America’s boreal forest, coastal temperate rainforests and Indonesian rainforests.

Recycling

Through a focused effort, Taylor was able to recycle more than 32,000 tons of waste materials in 2021 (paper, plastic, metals, electronics, etc.), representing almost 79% of our total waste tonnage.

Waste Reduction

Taylor diverted nearly 3,700 tons of  non-recyclable waste from 22 sites in 2021, yielding a diversion-from-landfill rate nearly 88%. We have 10 “landfill free” locations in Minnesota, two in Indiana, and one each in Florida, Hawaii and Pennsylvania.
Water Conservation and Reclamation

Our main product lines involve label and paper converting, with minimal use of water in the production process. Effluents from Taylor facilities are directed to local municipal water treatment plants where they are treated and recycled through the municipality. Any and all permits are in place for these municipalities.

Replacing Volatile Organic Compounds

Decades ago we stopped using petroleum-based inks in offset printing and adopted vegetable (soy) based inks instead. This transformation from alcohol/solvent-based to synthetic-based material is much safer for employees and the environment. We also purchase carbonless paper that uses vegetable-based carbonless capsules.

Our Approach

Taylor has earned national recognition for its commitment to sustainability by following a three-pronged approach grounded in responsible sourcing, recycling and resource management.
Capabilities-Sustainability-Goals
Sustainability Goals

Each year, Taylor analyzes data to plan sustainability-minded projects that increase efficiency and protect the environment for the future. For example, Taylor subscribed to more than 5,500 kilowatts of community solar in 2021 to promote renewable energy sources.

Sustainability Scorecard

Taylor is committed to maintaining high standards by serving as responsible managers of natural resources, being good corporate citizens and protecting the health and safety of our employees, clients and visitors. We grade ourselves annually and report results in our Sustainability Scorecard.
